Sanford D. Bishop is a Democratic Representative from Georgia's 2nd district who has served since 1993 and is the dean of Georgia's congressional delegation.
Background
Born in Mobile, Alabama, Sanford Bishop graduated from Morehouse College in 1968 and earned a law degree from Emory University in 1971. He served in the United States Army for two years before establishing a private law firm in Columbus, Georgia. Outside of his legal practice, he has been recognized as a Distinguished Eagle Scout and is a member of several fraternal and community organizations.
Political career
After serving in the United States Army and operating a law firm in Columbus, Georgia, Sanford D. Bishop was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 1993. He has represented Georgia's 2nd congressional district since that time, eventually becoming the dean of Georgia's congressional delegation. A member of the Democratic Party, he is affiliated with the moderate Blue Dog Coalition.
