Background
Born in Detroit, Suzanne Bonamici earned an associate degree from Lane Community College before graduating from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctor. She began her career as a legal assistant for Lane County Legal Aid and later served as a consumer protection attorney for the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. Before entering public office, she also worked in private practice in Portland, where she represented small businesses.
Political career
Suzanne Bonamici began her career in public office in the Oregon House of Representatives, where she was first elected in 2006, before serving in the Oregon State Senate from 2008 to 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, she was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in a 2012 special election. She has represented Oregon's 1st congressional district, which includes parts of Portland and its western suburbs, since that time.

Bonamici, Suzanne represents the 1st congressional district of OR in the U.S. House. Bonamici, Suzanne is the ranking member of the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education.
