Becca Balint is a Democratic Representative from Vermont's at-large district and the first woman and openly LGBTQ person to represent the state in Congress.
Background
Becca Balint was born in Heidelberg, West Germany, and grew up in Peekskill, New York. She earned her education at Smith College, Harvard University, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After moving to Vermont in 1994, she worked as a teacher, a rock-climbing instructor, and a columnist for the Brattleboro Reformer.
Political career
Becca Balint began her legislative career in the Vermont Senate, where she represented Windham County from 2015 to 2023 and held leadership roles as majority leader and president pro tempore. A member of the Democratic Party, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2022 election. She is the first woman and first openly LGBTQ person to represent Vermont in Congress.
