Background
Tom Barrett joined the U.S. Army after graduating from high school and served for 21 years, including deployments to South Korea, Guantanamo Bay, Kuwait, and Iraq. A veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, he retired from the Michigan Army National Guard in 2022 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2. Before entering public office, he also worked as a financial analyst for the Michigan Department of the Treasury.
Political career
Tom Barrett served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019 and in the Michigan Senate from 2019 to 2023 before his election to federal office. After an unsuccessful bid for the seat in 2022, he won the 2024 election to represent Michigan's 7th congressional district. A member of the Republican Party, he was sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2025.
