Background

Wesley Bell was born on November 5, 1974. After graduating from law school, he worked as a public defender in St. Louis County and served as a professor in the criminology department at Florissant Valley Community College. Before his election to Congress, he also served as a municipal court judge in Velda City and a municipal prosecutor in Riverview.

Political career

Wesley Bell began his political career as a member of the Ferguson City Council and later served as the prosecuting attorney for St. Louis County from 2019 to 2025. He was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2025 after defeating the incumbent in the Democratic primary and winning the general election for Missouri's 1st congressional district. Although a member of the Democratic Party, he previously managed a Republican congressional campaign in 2006 as a favor to a friend.
