Background
Kathy Castor was born in Miami and raised in Tampa, Florida. She earned her undergraduate degree from Emory College and later graduated from the Florida State University College of Law. Before entering public office, she worked as an attorney specializing in public administration law.
Political career
Before her election to federal office, Kathy Castor served on the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners from 2002 to 2006. She was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2007 and has served as a Democrat representing the Tampa area since that time. Her constituency was designated as Florida's 11th district until 2013, when it was renumbered as the 14th district.
