Background
Gerald E. Connolly was born on March 30, 1950. Before entering local government, he spent a decade working for the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, where he managed oversight of international economic and Middle East policies. He also held private sector leadership roles as a vice president for SRI International and as a director of community relations for Science Applications International Corporation.
Political career
Gerald E. Connolly began his career in public service as a staff member for the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations from 1979 to 1989 before entering local politics in Virginia. He served on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors starting in 1995, eventually serving as the board's chairman from 2004 until his transition to federal office. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2008 and served as the representative for Virginia's 11th congressional district from 2009 until his death in 2025.
