Background
A native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Mike Ezell earned a degree in criminal justice from the University of Southern Mississippi while attending night school. He spent over 35 years in law enforcement, beginning as a patrolman in 1980 and later serving as the chief of the Ocean Springs Police Department and a captain in the Pascagoula Police Department. Before his election to Congress, he served as the sheriff of Jackson County from 2014 to 2022, where he focused on modernizing operations and establishing a crime lab.
Political career
Mike Ezell began his political career in law enforcement, serving as the chief of the Ocean Springs Police Department and later as the sheriff of Jackson County from 2014 to 2022. A member of the Republican Party, he entered federal office after defeating an incumbent in a 2022 primary runoff and winning the subsequent general election. He was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2023 and won re-election to represent Mississippi's 4th district in 2024.
