Background
Brett Guthrie was born in Florence, Alabama. He earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematical economics from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1987 and later received a Master's of Public and Private Management from the Yale School of Management in 1997. Before entering politics, he served as a field artillery officer in the 101st Airborne Division and worked as a vice president for Trace Die Cast, Inc., an automotive parts supplier.
Political career
Brett Guthrie began his political career as a Republican member of the Kentucky Senate before seeking federal office. He has served as the U.S. representative for Kentucky's 2nd congressional district since 2009. Throughout his tenure in the House, he has represented a district that encompasses parts of central Kentucky, including Bowling Green and Owensboro.
