About
Mark E. Green is a Republican U.S. Representative from Tennessee's 7th District and a retired Army surgeon who chaired the Committee on Homeland Security from 2023 to 2025.
Background
Mark E. Green graduated from West Point and served as an infantry officer before earning his medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. He later served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Army, including tours of duty in the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars, and authored a book about his role in the mission to capture Saddam Hussein. After retiring from the military in 2006, he worked as a physician and served as the CEO of a company that provides staffing for hospital emergency departments.
Political career
Mark E. Green began his political career in the Tennessee Senate, where he represented the 22nd district from 2013 to 2018. After withdrawing his 2017 nomination for United States Secretary of the Army, he ran for federal office and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018. He was first sworn in to represent Tennessee's 7th congressional district in 2019 and served until his resignation in July 2025.
