LaMalfa, Doug

Doug LaMalfa is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing California’s 1st congressional district. Born in 1960 in Oroville, California, he is a fourth-generation rice farmer who earned a degree in agricultural business from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Before entering federal office in 2013, he served in the California State Assembly from 2002 to 2008 and the California State Senate from 2010 to 2012. His sprawling northern California district encompasses major interior hubs such as Redding, Chico, and Susanville.

Throughout his tenure in Congress, LaMalfa has sponsored 34 bills with a distinct legislative focus on rural infrastructure, agricultural policy, and disaster recovery. His recent legislative priorities include the Flood Insurance for Farmers Act of 2025, the Rural Hospital Fairness Act, and the Protect Innocent Victims of Taxation After Fire Extension Act. He has also introduced the ESSENTIAL Act and the STREAMLINE ACT, reflecting a policy emphasis on regulatory reform and resource management. His work in Washington remains deeply rooted in the agricultural and economic needs of his interior Northern California constituency.
