On Motion to Suspend the Rules and Pass
On May 12, 2022, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 3508, a bill to rename the United States Post Office located at 39 West Main Street in Honeoye Falls, New York. The facility will now be officially designated as the "CW4 Christian J. Koch Memorial Post Office" in honor of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Christian J. Koch, a New York Army National Guard soldier who died in a helicopter crash during a training mission in 2021. The measure passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, receiving 408 "Yea" votes and only 3 "Nay" votes. Because the bill was considered under a "suspension of the rules"—a procedure typically used for non-controversial legislation—it required a two-thirds majority to pass, which it easily exceeded with the backing of nearly all present Democrats and Republicans.
