Background
Cory Booker was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Harrington Park, New Jersey. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Stanford University, studied at Queen's College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar, and graduated from Yale Law School. Before his election to the U.S. Senate, he worked as a lawyer and served as the mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013.
Political career
Cory Booker began his political career on the Municipal Council of Newark from 1998 to 2002 before serving as the 38th mayor of Newark from 2006 until 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first sworn in as a U.S. senator from New Jersey in October 2013 following a special election victory. He was subsequently reelected to full terms in 2014 and 2020, and he became the state's senior senator in August 2024.
