About
Mike Crapo is a Republican U.S. Senator from Idaho who has served in the chamber since 1999 and is the dean of the state's congressional delegation.
Background
Born in Idaho Falls, Mike Crapo graduated from Brigham Young University and earned his law degree from Harvard Law School. Following his education, he served as a law clerk for a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He then returned to his hometown of Idaho Falls to practice law at a private firm throughout the 1980s.
Political career
Mike Crapo began his political career in the Idaho Senate, where he served from 1984 to 1992 and held the position of Senate president pro tempore. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992 and served three terms representing Idaho's 2nd congressional district from 1993 to 1999. A member of the Republican Party, he has served in the U.S. Senate since 1999 and was most recently reelected in 2022.
