Background

Steve Daines was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Bozeman, Montana, where he served as the president of the Montana State University College Republicans. He spent thirteen years with Procter & Gamble, including six years managing operations in Hong Kong and China, before joining his family's construction business in 1997. Daines later became an executive at the software company RightNow Technologies, serving as a vice president until 2012.

Political career

Steve Daines entered public service after a career as a corporate executive, following an unsuccessful 2008 campaign for lieutenant governor of Montana. He was elected to represent Montana's at-large congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and served there from 2013 to 2015. He has served as a United States senator from Montana since 2015 and was reelected to a second term in 2020.
