On the Joint Resolution

On June 20, 2019, the Senate voted 53–45 to pass a Joint Resolution of Disapproval aimed at blocking a proposed arms sale to foreign nations. The passage of this resolution represented a formal legislative attempt to prevent the executive branch from moving forward with the transfer of military equipment.

The vote was largely driven by the Democratic caucus, which voted unanimously in favor of the resolution. While the majority of Republicans opposed the measure, seven Republican senators joined the Democrats to provide the margin necessary for passage. Despite this bipartisan support in the Senate, the resolution did not achieve the two-thirds majority required to override a potential presidential veto.
